Hide Those Veggies Mom Sauce
Ingredients
- 1 (32 ounce) can diced tomatoes
- 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
- 1 (1 1/4 ounce) packet spaghetti sauce, seasoning
- 4 ounces salsa (more if you like- heat your decision)
- 1 zucchini, diced
- 1 purple onion, diced
- 2 garlic cloves, mashed
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 2 tablespoons italian seasoning
- 1 cup swiss chard, stems removed or 12 ounces spinach, frozen, thawed and squeezed
- 1 lb hamburger (could also be a mix of ground meats)
- 1 red pepper, cut up (optional)
- 3 carrots, diced (optional)
- pasta, of your choice
- parsley
- cheese, shredded
Instructions
- Brown beef with onion, cumin, and garlic, drain, and set aside.
- In a large kettle mix together onions, garlic,(hamburger if using) and all other ingredients, bring to a rolling boil, stirring frequently then turn to simmer for at least 30 minute.
- The longer it simmers the richer the flavors.
- Use over pasta and sprinkle parsley and shredded cheese over top.
